What's wrong with female monks?! They can be so tiny and innocent-looking!

Yeah, my female monk is so tiny that she's dwarfed by the other players during cut scenes. The head/hair choices have never been all that great for female monks (they got worse with Factions, IMO). I somehow managed to create a pretty good-looking monk for Prophecies. People would probably think my Factions monk is pretty, but she looks stunned, like there's nothing going on inside her head. I don't like the way the male monks stand, so I stuck with female, anyway.

As far as what gender I like to play, it depends on the profession. I prefer male necros and elementalists, and I prefer female rangers, monks, warriors, mesmers, and assassins. Haven't made my mind up about rits yet--I don't really like playing the profession, so I'm not sure it'll ever be an issue.

As I said in the other thread, I don't care what gender someone plays as long as they don't lie about their RL gender if asked.

All of my characters are female. They are all as short as I can make them too. Most of the time people presume that I am not a REAL girl, and that is perfectly fine. It makes it a lot less likely that I will have to deal with them bugging me later with the "are you hot IRL" questions.

I generally only confess to people that I have been questing with on a somewhat regular basis. Then again, there are also the forums that I frequent, I have been harrassed in game because of posting on a message board. Which really sucks IMO.

What would be the point of playing a male char unless you're not happy with your RL gender?
Why, in RL, are there more men having themselves transformed surgically into something female-like, than women have themselves transformed into something male like?

But if unsure if a char is male or female in RL, there's always a good chance to decide by the name of the char.

And if that doesn't help, you might ask them, if they like ST. If they can some up with an answer of more than 5 words, chances are, they're female.

If still in doubt: who cares?

I'd never play a male char, though I could imagine my life in Tyria/Cantha could be more pleasant without being proposed to all the time or worse: being harrased.

Hehe, some almost-funny episodes from running a guild (i'm the leader, we have two girls - I know for sure from TS):

New guy: Is she a girl
Me: Yep.
New guy: REALLY??
Me: Yep.
New guy: REALLY REALLY? HOW OLD R U??
Me: kick from guild...

Or I tell them my freind (who plays girl char) is a gir IRL, they whisp him and get flamed to the point of suicide...

Girls are generally more comfortable to play with, not prone to "OMG NUB PWNDZRZD UUU!!" BS and generally more mature. Or just mine experience? Perhaps it has to do with genetics and the "Alpha male" syndrom...yep guys definitely get what they ask by immaturish drooling ...makes the rest of us seem like mindless horny zombies (and makes general opinion of males as such, so I have a difficult time explaining "I'm not quite like that, ya know..."

Ahh, enough ranting....just unloading my mind on a boring Monday workday...

Shoutz to da girlz who endure us as such!!

But plenty of guys are playing female characters, of course. So, if my hunch is right, and female players don't play male characters often, why would that be?

like i forget and go ooc and dont act all 'blokeish' and i slip up.

i now have one male character....my little Monkeyboy (a monk btw) who is mainly there to look after the stuff of his dear ladyfriends...

as to the guy that has probs explaining that he isnt like the normal males...
(just say...'i know it's ok to cry, i know how to cook and i like girls as friends and as gf...just so you know i do *like* girls *winks flirtyly*) ect....
one of my mates is a honerary girl with prety much all the girls he knows, simply cause he is not a macho bloke, but yet he isnt gay, so he has tones of femail friends

I think my wife's current count is 7 female characters, two male ones.

I made a couple of female characters, but am just using them as mules so far. Even so, at some point I imagine we'll play together, me with a female, she with a male.

I do enjoy watching my ritualist character go running off to storage, unclothed. In fact, I deleted her starter armor and haven't gotten around to buying her any new stuff yet.

I'm a lady and I play only female characters because I like what I am and I wouldn't be confortable playing a male character!

Think if all the players would play only their "IRL" gender ....... there will be lots of males and very few females! :O Anyway TS or Ventrilo will take away any illusion!

When I create a new character, my own gender is what comes first in mind.
I always ignore people when they ask if I'm really a girl.

I tell them my weight, after that they are no longer interested in my gender

Some females here have said they want something nice to look at...the same reason a lot of males play females. Or, in some cases, they just prefer the head/hair choices or looks of one gender over the other--that's the reason I have a couple of male characters.

Agreed. If someone flat out asks me, I tell them, but often they don't. If they just assume, like calling me 'dude', I don't say, "Hey, I'm female," because I don't see the point. I'll only be in a PUG with them for fifteen minutes.

In my case, I'd tell them my age, and I suspect the same thing would happen.

My wife and I play together as a team. In real life, I'm a very large bearded man with a shaved head; my wife is cute and petite. In game, she plays a beefy barbarian and I usually play some cute chick with spells.

Role reversal? Play styles? Who knows, but we've always enjoyed playing online games that way.

I'd say no. You're only impersonating if you pretend you're that way IRL. Everyone should know that the avatar on the screen likely doesn't bear much resemblance to the person sitting in the chair, regardless of weight, looks, age, etc. That goes for the male avatars, too.
